September: Armenia, Lake Sevan fisherman repairing his net

The native population calls Lake Sevan the Pearl of Armenia. It is one of the highest lakes on earth of this size (altitude 2000m, area 1250 km2). However, since the 1930s the Russians have installed major hydropower facilities on the only outlet of the lake, causing the lake level to drop by 20 meters to its natural state. As the economy of Armenia is seeking new paths after the collapse of the Soviet Union, at least fishing is a steady source of income.
